BARMAH'S BOFFIN

Barmah’s Boffin like most boffins is a technical expert with scientific traits.  In Barmah our Boffin is normally called “So & So”, because he or she is anonymous and his or her identity is unknown.

Anonymous So & So, through indirect means, made known to the management of the Barmah Hall and anyone else that would take note, the following pertinent points.

Education Facilities in Victoria are now protected by a 40km speed zone.

The Barmah Hall is used as an Education Facility.

The Hall is sited on a public reserve and this falls within the 40km speed zone.

The Ramp to access the Hall had a very steep slope.

Hypothetically a pram would have been able to reach a speed of 44.5 km going down the ramp.

The Ramp was so narrow that a fast pram could not pass a slow pram.

Prams are a frequent means of transport to and from the Hall, as the Hall is used as a Kindergarten.

Summed up, hypothetically Prams could be breaking the imposed speed limit going down the ramp of the Hall.

So & So our Boffin, didn’t take into account the hot prevailing wind of which there is plenty in Barmah.  This head wind would definitely have had a slowing effect on a pram causing a reduction in speed to around the 40km.   However not taking Barmah’s wind factor into serious consideration, the Hall Committee met with the Shire and discussed the issue of the Ramp.

The outcome folks is that a new ramp is now in place.  The slope of the new ramp is about half that of the old.  The width of the new ramp is about twice that of the old.  Two prams can now pass safely.  I am sure So & So, will find now, that when calculating the hypothetical top speed a pram can reach, it will be within the legal Speed Limit.

The Hall committee along with the Kindergarten acknowledge and appreciate the ongoing support for the Community Hall from the Moira Shire.  Thanks to the Shire our Hall now has an even more safe access for all current and future users, with or without wheels.  And as an afterthought with the hot wind in Barmah now receded,  we had better thank So & So, Barmah’s Boffin.
